amazing! makes normal discmans laughable!  |

this is great. I bought it in hongkong before it even came out here, and i was impressed. I never used to like discmans because theyre chunky, and if you barely touch them theyll skip like mad.. not to mention the batteries on standard ones only last for like.. 2 hours??! they just didnt seem worth the investment..
however, i was proved wrong with this little baby. not only is it really small, it looks great... doesnt skip at all.. and this is when im shaking it around like mad! And most importantly...., its ability to play ATRAC! It comes with the software, you just load it onto your computer, and select all the cds and mp3s you want on it.. literally hundreds of songs can be put onto one disc. Burn the disc.. then play it .. voila, days worth of music on one cd. theres a funtion on the discman where you can select particular sections of music on the disc to play, so you can organise your music into mood categories depending on what you want to listen to. so say goodbye to endlessly listening to 12 tracks repeating! Say HELLO to a portable jukebox!
The batteries last forever as well. and theyre rechargable (it comes with charger) I can play mine for over 60 hours continuously before it needs recharging!
I cant criticise it.. its excellent. :o)

I first bought the DNE511, but the controls were way to flimsy and the case didnt seem as if it would last long at all, so i dug deeper into my wallet and decided on the dne1 and I wasnt disappointed plays all my mp3 without any probs eg 128/256/98 and 196kps.
Pros
Very well built: has an acrylic lid layered with aluminium the underside is sturdy too, i can imagine it can take a lot of banging. and also is very slim can fit into a pocket easily enough.
Doesnt skip at all even while walking with it in my pocket!
Reads mp3 tracks quickly enough has a fast forward funtion too unlike earlier models.
Remote display is bright and easy to read.
Cons:
Price: well you pay for what you get.
Sound: not very loud especially while playing Audio cds: Supplied headphones are useless as usual with all cd players,
The shiny case: yes that aluminium lid looks good but give it a day or too and it will have a few nice scrapes on it, mine isnt shiny any more!
Weight: is made of heavy duty material! so is probably a bit heavier than most players.
Doesnt have upgradeable firmware, cant play wma
Sonic burner is a bit crap takes a long while to convert files to atrac3, also you cant save your atrac files as you go along so you will have to spend about 2 days sticking cds into your pc if you want to get 30 cds on your atrac cd!
Has fast forward function for mp3s but isnt quick enough in my humble opinion.
No option switch g proof off only option 1 and 2, which means cd sound quality is always slightly degraded due to compression for the buffer,(however i noticed no audible difference)
but overall it is a great buy, i would highly reccomend this product

New Technology is becoming very scary! |
I thought this new Atrac design was too good to be true. It is hard to believe that you can burn up to 30 cds onto one cd-r disc. New technology is getting too good, imagine 10 years from now. Sony have created just what everybody needs a cd walkman that lets you copy all your best albums onto one disc so you dont have to lug around loads of your cds, this is fab for someone like me who likes to travel. I thought I had to stick with the MD player but since this is so brilliant I have now sold it!The great thing is now I only need the Sony D-NE1 instead of both of them. This stylish design is light and fresh looking, it is not much larger than a cd, the remote stick is great for when excercising or on the move/commuting etc. One of the best features is that all your cds can be read by Artist and tracks so it is all done for you rather than a MD player where you need to add yourself. You can even bookmark your favs and skip by group (by album not track). The stand for the unit looks neat and stylish so everyone can admire while it is charging, I have had this for about 3 weeks and it is still going on its first charge which is quite impressive as it has been used to the max! The one down side for me was I could not get the software to work but then I did not read all the Instructions fully first and being Windows XP there are some dos and donts so read everything first. I had to use someone elses computer as I was so keen to start burning, I have now sussed out the software and can burn on my own computer. Great one Sony and Im sure it will catch on.
